Crock Pot Chicken and Dumplings Is A Family Favorite

Crock Pot Chicken and Dumplings is a delicious dinner. It is a comfort food that everyone in your family will consider their favorite dinner. Ironically, as popular as this dish is, I don’t remember eating it when I was younger. It is certainly strange considering my mom made home cooked meals every night! But I don’t remember eating this. I’m not sure when I became exposed to such yummy goodness, but once I tried it, I was hooked ever since!

Crock Pot Cooking

This recipe uses a crock pot to slow cook the chicken, vegetables, and dumplings. If you have ever cooked dinner with a crock pot, you know just how easy it is! It’s a great way to get food on the table when you are short on time. Generally, you quickly add the ingredients in the morning and reap the benefits in the evening!

This chicken and dumplings recipe consists of minimal ingredients, yet it delivers a flavorful punch! It’s similar to chicken pot pie, but a lot easier to make. Although, if you are looking for an easy chicken pot pie recipe, you could try my Chicken Pot Pie Soup. But back to the Chicken & Dumplings. This is a creamy chicken dinner that includes carrots and peas with some much needed biscuits. You can’t have dumplings without those delicious biscuits!

Cooking Chicken With Dumplings

To make this delicious dinner, you don’t need to prep much or cook much. It’s SO EASY! Just chopped up an onion. Add the chicken, onion, veggies, seasonings, cream of chicken soup, and chicken broth to the crock pot. Then, mix everything together and turn on the heat. You can cook this on low and slow or high and fly, whichever length of time suits you. Approximately an hour before serving, cut up the biscuits and dunk those in the crock pot juice. Turn the heat to high and let the biscuits grow and soak up that creamy chicken gravy.

Some recipes that are similar to this one suggest adding butter. I’m not saying they are wrong for adding butter to their dishes, however, I don’t notice a difference in the end result so I skip the butter entirely. Why bother adding extra calories and fat, if it isn’t necessary? But, by all means, if you want to make your dinner extra creamy, add it in!

Make It Your Own

Remember, recipes can be followed to the T or you can use them for inspiration. If you want to tweak this recipe and tailor it more to your liking, do it! I won’t get mad. I pin all kinds of recipes because they sound good to eat. However, most of the time, I change the recipes and make them my own because I prefer things more cheesy, garlicky, spicier, etc etc etc. Don’t be afraid to change things up, but if you are a novice cook, I wouldn’t change key ingredients on your first try. Keep with the recipe and change things one dash at a time.

That being said, I hope you don’t feel you need to change this chicken and dumpling recipe. My family loves it and I’m sure you will enjoy the great taste as well as the simplistic way of cooking it!
